Port Fairy Accommodation :: Port Fairy

Port Fairy Accommodation: A selection of unique accommodation venues at Port Fairy.
Port Fairy
Put simply, Port Fairy is one of the most magical
spots along the entire length of the Shipwreck Coast. Its historical
origins lay with the whalers of the early nineteenth century when whales
were actually herded together in Port Fairy Bay, harpooned and then
processed on nearby Griffith's Island. In the latter part of the same
century Port Fairy became the second busiest port in Victoria and could
lay claim to a respectable 35 hotels. Today you'll find 4 hotels remaining;
some of the oldest in Victoria. Drop in, have a Guinness, you'll be
made more than welcome. Port Fairy accommodation is quite unique in
that many of the old whaler's cottages have been well preserved, refurbished
and offer visitors to this historic town a real sense of what life must
have been like in those exciting times. Much of the recent accommodation
in Port Fairy adheres to designs reminiscent of those days, especially
along the banks of the picturesque Moyne River, where today you will
still find the local fishing fleet tied up next to modern sailing vessels.
For those who are after modern, contemporary accommodation, Port Fairy
will not disappoint. Port Fairy is home to some of the most incredibly
modern villas and apartments in Victoria and all of them come with sensational
ocean views. Port Fairy Accommodation really does stand out from the
rest. |
